1922 W.V. Musgrove Naval Stores Homerville GA Signed Ford Letter # 1139

Original September 1, 1922 typed personal letter on decorative W. V. Musgrove, Manufacturer of Naval Stores letterhead from Homerville, Georgia. The letterhead also lists W. V. Musgrove & Co., Dupont Turpentine Co., James Musgrove & Patterson, and Musgrove & Patterson operations in several south Georgia towns. Written to “Sadie” and hand-signed J. T. Johnson, with the middle initial somewhat difficult to decipher. The writer describes overseeing the business while Mr. Musgrove was away in North Carolina with his partner, Mr. Patterson, who was suffering from “consumption,” the period term for tuberculosis. The letter also mentions possibly returning to teach at Joyner School, family and community news, and taking Sadie for a ride in his new Ford automobile. An attractive piece of early Georgia naval-stores, turpentine, automotive, medical, and local-history ephemera. Original folds, age toning, wrinkles, light staining, and minor edge wear; complete and clearly readable.
