1933 USDA New Deal Tobacco Contract Douglas Doyle Horry County SC # 1142

Original 1933–1934 United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Adjustment Administration Form T-80a, Flue-Cured Tobacco Production Adjustment Contract, issued under the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933. The completed contract concerns tobacco farmer Douglas Doyle of Route 3, Box 30, Galivants Ferry, Horry County, South Carolina. It records a 95-acre farm with 22 cultivated acres, located approximately four miles north of Cool Spring on the Cool Springs–Lake Swamp Road in Bayboro Township. Tobacco-production entries document 4 acres and 3,200 pounds in 1931, 5 acres and 3,750 pounds in 1932, and 4½ acres and 4,580 pounds in 1933. Signed in original ink by Douglas Doyle on December 20, 1933, with additional witness, county committee and county-agent signatures. Certified December 29, 1933, and formally accepted March 24, 1934, on behalf of Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace. Wallace’s name is printed on the form; the acceptance signature was made by an authorized representative and is not Wallace’s autograph. Complete four-page New Deal-era government farm contract with original folds, age toning, staining, edge wear, pencil notations and a notable split at the lower central fold, as photographed. All principal entries and signatures remain legible.
