1835 Modes de Paris Hand-Colored Fashion Plate No. 1201. # 1144

Original October 25, 1835, hand-colored fashion plate titled Modes de Paris, plate No. 1201, published for the French fashion periodical Petit Courrier des Dames. The lower margin gives the Paris address at 2 Boulevard des Italiens, near the Passage de l’Opéra, and the London distributor’s imprint of Messrs. S. & J. Fuller, 34 Rathbone Place. The engraving depicts front and rear views of elaborate women’s outerwear from the Romantic or Louis-Philippe period, including a voluminous brown satin mantle over a vivid blue dress, a green cloak and ornate feathered bonnets. Produced through fine engraved or etched line and stipple work with period hand-applied color. Displays scattered foxing, age toning, surface dirt, edge and corner wear, a larger chip at the left edge, a smaller right-edge loss, minor creasing and old pencil notations on the reverse. The principal image, date, plate number and publisher information remain complete and legible, with strong surviving color.
