1890 Charleston SC R.M. Marshall Legal Postal Card Jefferson UX9 # 1160

Original August 25, 1890 Charleston, South Carolina postal card featuring printed business advertising for R. M. Marshall & Brother, 33 Broad Street. The card bears a preprinted one-cent Thomas Jefferson postal indicium, a clear Charleston cancellation dated August 25, and an additional circular carrier or delivery marking dated August 26. The reverse contains handwritten business correspondence concerning a property conveyance and family or marital information. R. M. Marshall & Brother was a Charleston auction and real-estate firm operating from 33 Broad Street. An interesting piece of late-19th-century South Carolina postal, commercial and legal history. The postal stationery appears to be the 1886 one-cent Jefferson black-on-buff issue, commonly cataloged as Scott UX9. Condition: Original antique condition with toning, light spotting, corner and edge wear, handling marks and general age-related wear.
