1877 Waco Texas 1¢ Liberty Postal Card to Charleston SC Scott UX5 # 1161

Original 1877 U.S. one-cent Liberty postal card, mailed from Waco, Texas, with a clear May 14, 7 P.M. circular cancellation. Addressed to Hon. Wm. P. Connor, Charleston, South Carolina. The handwritten message is dated Waco, Texas, May 14, 1877 and discusses family correspondence, mortgages and a requested remittance. Signed at the bottom, although the sender’s surname is difficult to read. The card appears to be the unwatermarked Scott UX5 variety; no watermark was visible during inspection. It features the classic black 1¢ Liberty postal stationery design on buff card stock. Condition is consistent with age and postal use, including overall toning, scattered spotting, edge wear, a small upper-left corner bend and cancellation ink across the printed indicium.
