1787 Revolutionary War Beef Claim Francis Marion Brigade Hugh Giles Signed B1174

Original 1787 South Carolina Revolutionary War audited supply claim concerning 300 pounds of beef furnished for General Francis Marion’s Brigade in August 1782. The upper account identifies Joseph Hicks, records the beef as supplied for militia use, and values the approved claim at £3, 17 shillings sterling. The lower portion authorizes Colonel Hugh Giles to receive Hicks’s state payment indent from the Commissioners of the Treasury. The document bears: * The original autograph signature of Col. Marion’s Brigade” Francis Marion is historically referenced in the document but did not sign it. Condition: Original eighteenth-century manuscript with age toning, scattered discoloration, minor edge wear and ink show-through. Old clear Scotch-type tape is attached along all four edges on the back, apparently from a previous mounting. The tape and adhesive have not been removed and may have caused some edge staining.
