1902 Nicaragua Masaya-New York Cover 5c + 10c/2P Momotombo Stamps # 1196

Original 1902 Nicaragua commercial postal cover mailed from Masaya to Lammann & Kemp, 135–139 Water Street, New York City. The envelope bears two attractive Nicaragua Mount Momotombo stamps: a blue 5-centavos issue and an orange-red 2-pesos stamp surcharged “10 Cent. 1901.” Both stamps remain affixed and are tied to the cover by purple Masaya postal cancellations. The front also features a red “J. Cardoze y Hermano – Masaya” merchant handstamp and elegant period handwriting. Reverse transit/arrival markings include a New York postmark that appears dated November 18, 1902. A desirable piece of early Nicaragua-to-United States postal history, especially appealing to collectors of Latin American covers, Nicaragua stamps, commercial mail and Mount Momotombo issues. Condition: Original used condition with age toning, handling wear, small stains and roughness along the opened upper edge. Stamps show cancellation and normal postal wear.
