1910 Nürnberg Germany to New York 2¢ Postage Due Toilet Paper Co Card # 1206

Original 1910 commercial postcard mailed from Nürnberg, Germany, to New York City, addressed to Darwin D. Silberer, 1237 Hoe Avenue. The card was issued by Vereinigte Closettpapierfabriken G.m.b.H., a Nürnberg toilet-paper manufacturer, and contains a typed German business message concerning product samples reportedly forwarded from Hamburg aboard the steamship Pennsylvania. The card bears a green 5-pfennig Germania stamp and was apparently underpaid for international delivery. It received a boxed German “T = 12½” postage-due marking, followed by an attached United States 2¢ Postage Due stamp and New York postal cancellations. The card dates from September 1910, making it pre–World War I commercial postal history, not wartime mail. An unusual and appealing piece combining early toilet-paper advertising, international business correspondence, steamship-related content and U.S. postage-due usage. Condition: Antique used condition with age toning, surface marks, edge and corner wear, and a small notch or tear at the top middle.
