1921 Czechoslovakia-Chicago Postcard Austrian 5h 2¢ US Postage Due # 1212

Original 1921 European picture postcard mailed to Frances Frick, 4640 North 40th Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. The card is handwritten in Czech and dated April 11, 1921. It is franked with a green 1908 Austrian 5-heller Emperor Franz Joseph Jubilee stamp and bears foreign-mail transit and postage-due markings. Two United States 1¢ postage-due stamps, totaling 2 cents, remain attached. The postal treatment suggests the Austrian stamp was considered invalid or insufficient for the mailing. The picture side shows a hand-colored rural landscape with a cottage, pond and trees. An interesting post–World War I postal-history item combining obsolete Austro-Hungarian postage, European-to-American mail and U.S. postage-due collection. Condition is as shown, with age toning, corner and edge wear, light creasing, surface wear and postal ink marks. The stamps remain attached, with cancellation ink and minor perforation wear.
