1873 German History of United States Benson Lossing Illustrated Durst Book #2502

Offered is an original 1873 German-language history of the United States by Benson J. Lossing, titled: Eine Geschichte der Vereinigten Staaten für Familien und Bibliotheken Translated into German by Leopold Simonson and published in Hartford by T. Belknap. This large illustrated volume contains a detailed history of the United States with numerous woodcut illustrations and engraved plates, including a George Washington frontispiece. The book retains its original green cloth binding with decorative gilt emblem and gilt spine lettering. An early ownership inscription inside reads “John Durst” and is dated December 12, 1896, adding family and genealogical interest. Condition: Antique condition with substantial age and storage wear. The covers show rubbing, staining, fading, edge wear and areas of cloth loss. The lower spine has exposed binding material and noticeable damage. Interior pages show heavy water staining, foxing, toning and scattered spotting. The George Washington frontispiece and illustrated pages remain visually appealing.
