1934 Tanganyika Airmail Cover Tukuyu to Shanghai China KGV Stamps # 1216

Offered is an original 1934 Tanganyika commercial airmail cover sent from Tukuyu to Shanghai, China. The envelope is franked with three King George V stamps inscribed “Mandated Territory of Tanganyika”: * Two 15-cent red-and-black stamps * One 5-cent green-and-black stamp * Total postage: 35 cents The stamps are tied by Tukuyu postmarks dated May 30, 1934. The cover also bears a blue “BY AIR MAIL / PAR AVION” etiquette and a violet bilingual “PAR AVION / BY AIR MAIL” handstamp. Addressed to: Messrs. H. Thalla P.O. Box 105 Shanghai Reverse transit markings document the postal route through Dodoma on June 1, 1934, and Dar es Salaam on June 2, 1934, before continuing to China. An appealing prewar African aviation and postal-history item with an uncommon Shanghai destination, multiple King George V franking and clear route markings. Condition: Overall age toning, scattered soiling, edge and corner wear, light creasing, small tears and opening wear. The stamps remain attached and postally cancelled.
