1900 ZAR Transvaal Boer War Censored Cover to Berlin via Delagoa Bay # 1219

Original 1900 South African Republic (Z.A.R./Transvaal) Second Boer War censored postal cover mailed from Johannesburg to Herren Selberg & Schlueter, Berlin, Germany, and specifically routed “Via Delagoa Bay.” The cover is franked with two red 1 Penny Z.A.R. stamps and one green ½ Penny stamp, totaling 2½ pence. The reverse bears a scarce pink South African Republic postal censor seal reading “Postdepartement, Z.A. Republiek — Geopend onder Krijgswet,” meaning “Opened Under Martial Law.” The censor label also retains its handwritten authorization/signature. A Berlin receiving postmark appears dated February 22, 1900. The important collectible feature is the complete wartime postal-history combination: original Z.A.R. stamps, Johannesburg mailing, Delagoa Bay routing, German destination, arrival postmark, and signed martial-law censor seal. The individual stamps are not considered major rarities, but the intact Boer War censor cover is scarce specialist material. Nothing has been removed. Condition is poor to fair with substantial age wear, including heavy folds and creasing, edge wear, discoloration, a large tear across the reverse, torn flap area, and other handling damage.
