1894 Paris Telegram Signed Stamp Dealer Jules Bernichon Guatemala # 1249

Authentic 1894 French Paris pneumatic-post telegram, commonly called a “Petit Bleu.” Printed on blue-green postal stationery with the 50-centime République Française Télégraphe design by Chaplain and period Paris postal cancellations. The reverse bears a clear purple business stamp reading: Jules Bernichon 10, Rue Buffault, Paris Jules Bernichon was a noted Paris stamp dealer and philatelic expert associated with important early stamp collections. The handwritten French message appears to discuss an 800-franc payment, a stamp collection being offered, and a Guatemala collection or item valued at approximately 650 francs. This is considerably more desirable than a routine personal pneumatic telegram because of its direct connection to the historic French philatelic trade. The business stamp strongly supports the Jules Bernichon association, although the handwriting and signature have not been professionally authenticated. Condition includes original folds, light staining and soiling, faded or difficult handwriting, postal markings, edge wear, and a small damaged area along the right edge.
