Original vintage Cuban postal cover addressed directly to President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the White House, Washington, U.S.A. The envelope retains its original Republic of Cuba 2-cent postage stamp and postal cancellation. The beautifully handwritten address specifically identifies Roosevelt as “President of the U.S.A.” and gives his destination as the “White House, Washington City, U.S.A.” Most importantly, the reverse bears the red provenance stamp: “FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION – AUTHENTICATED BY H.R. HARMER INC., N.Y.” This provenance identifies the cover as having come from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s renowned philatelic collection and subsequently authenticated/handled by H.R. Harmer. A fascinating piece combining Franklin D. Roosevelt presidential history, White House history, Cuban postal history and stamp collecting. The cover remains in original circulated condition with expected age toning, edge wear, small tears/opening wear and other signs of handling.
