1933 FDR President-Elect Cover France to Roosevelt 3 Days Before Inaugural #1289

Scarce 1933 French postal cover addressed directly to Franklin D. Roosevelt as President-Elect of the United States, sent from Chevannes, Yonne, France to the United States shortly before Roosevelt’s first presidential inauguration. The front is beautifully handwritten in French: “Monsieur Roosevelt, Président élu des États-Unis d’Amérique” The cover bears three 50-centime French postage stamps with clear CHEVANNES / YONNE circular cancellations dated 1933. An especially important feature is the provenance marking on the reverse: “FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION – AUTHENTICATED BY H.R. HARMER INC., N.Y.” This indicates the cover was formerly part of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Collection and was handled/authenticated by noted philatelic auction firm H.R. Harmer.
