1930 FDR Roosevelt Pre-Presidential France Airmail Cover H.R. Harmer # 1299

Authentic 1930 French airmail cover addressed to Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington, D.C., dating from his pre-presidential period while he was Governor of New York. The envelope bears a blue France 1fr50 Poste Aérienne stamp depicting an airplane over Marseille. The circular postmark appears to read 13-11-30 (November 13, 1930), making this a very early use of the stamp, which was issued in November 1930. The handwritten address reads approximately: Franklin Roosevelt Sénateur de New York Washington États-Unis d’Amérique The reverse carries the important red provenance stamp: “FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N.Y.” H.R. Harmer handled the historic dispersal of Roosevelt’s personal philatelic collection after his death, making this an especially desirable piece of FDR, presidential and postal-history memorabilia. Condition: Original vintage condition with age toning, edge and corner wear, creasing and a noticeable tear to the reverse. Envelope has been opened.
