1933 FDR Mexico Registered White House Cover H.R. Harmer Provenance # 1316

Offered here is an original 1933 registered cover from Tampico, Mexico, addressed directly to President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the White House in Washington, D.C. The front is addressed “F. D. Roosevelt, White House, Washington, D.C.” and marked “Personal.” It bears two Mexican 10-centavo stamps with Tampico cancellations and a registered-mail label numbered 5282. The reverse is especially desirable, featuring two large red “Correos – Mexico / Correspondencias Registradas” registered-mail seals, multiple transit/receiving postmarks, and handwritten sender identification for C. H. Gillespie, American Consul, Tampico, Tamps. A Washington, D.C. registered-section receiving mark appears dated October 20, 1933, during Roosevelt’s first year as President. Most importantly, the reverse carries the red provenance marking: “FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION – AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N.Y.” This is an attractive piece combining FDR presidential history, Mexican postal history, registered diplomatic mail, White House correspondence, and documented Roosevelt collection provenance. Please note: the handwritten “F. D. Roosevelt” is the address to Roosevelt and is not being represented as Roosevelt’s autograph.
