FDR Roosevelt Mexico Cover H.R. Harmer Collection White House President # 1317

Offered here is an original vintage Mexican postal cover addressed directly to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington, D.C. The front is handwritten: “Mr. Frank. D. Roosevelt President of the United States Washington, D.C. U.S.A.” The envelope was mailed from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico and bears a Mexican 10-centavo postage stamp with a strong Monterrey cancellation. A handwritten return address appears in the upper-left corner from a sender in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico. The most important feature is the red provenance stamp on the reverse: “FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION AUTHENTICATED BY H. R. HARMER INC., N.Y.” This identifies the cover as having come from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s personal philatelic collection, which was dispersed through H.R. Harmer following Roosevelt’s death. This is an attractive crossover collectible combining FDR presidential history, White House correspondence, Mexican postal history, and Roosevelt stamp-collection provenance.
