1936 Cuba Registered Airmail Cover to Franklin D. Roosevelt – H.R. Harmer Authenticated Outstanding 1936 registered airmail cover from Havana, Cuba, addressed directly to President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the White House in Washington, D.C. The cover is franked with two Republic of Cuba stamps, including an attractive 10-centavo Correo Aéreo Nacional airplane issue, and bears a large blue “CORREO-AEREO / HABANA-CUBA / MAY 28 1936” marking. The Spanish-language address is directed to: Honorable Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidente de la República de Estados Unidos de Norte América “Casa Blanca” Washington, D.C. The reverse retains several remnants of the original wax seals and clearly struck registered-mail markings documenting its journey, including: MIAMI, FLA. – REGISTERED – MAY 28 1936 and WASHINGTON, D.C. – REG. SEC. – MAY 29 1936 Most importantly, the reverse bears the red provenance stamp: “FROM THE FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT COLLECTION AUTHENTICATED BY H.R. HARMER INC., N.Y.” This important marking identifies the cover as originating from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s personal philatelic collection. A particularly desirable piece combining FDR presidential history, Cuban postal history, early airmail, registered international mail, White House destination, multiple transit markings, and documented H.R.
