1930 Mark Twain Huckleberry Finn Harper’s Modern Classics Illustrated # 1344

Vintage The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Tom Sawyer’s Comrade) by Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens), published by Harper & Brothers, New York and London, as part of Harper’s Modern Classics series. This illustrated hardcover edition features the classic Mark Twain portrait frontispiece with a printed facsimile signature, title page marked “Illustrated – New Edition From New Plates,” and the publisher’s Harper & Brothers emblem. The copyright page lists the original 1884 Samuel L. Clemens copyright along with later Harper/Mark Twain Company copyrights. An especially interesting feature is the period handwritten provenance inside the front cover: “To Mary Olive Lund, From Your Aunt Ettie Moody, Chicago Ill.” A second inscription identifies Mary Olive Lund with a St. Petersburg, Florida address. Condition: Antique/vintage used condition with substantial age and handling wear. Blue cloth boards show rubbing, fading, edge and corner wear, with fraying at the spine ends. Interior pages have expected age toning, spotting/foxing and occasional staining. Front hinge/endpaper area shows wear and separation as photographed. No dust jacket present. A collectible early-20th-century Harper edition of one of the most important works of American literature, with attractive period provenance.
