1920 Shawnee Oklahoma Metropolitan Cigar & Candy Co. Cover Original November 17, 1920 commercial advertising cover mailed from Shawnee, Oklahoma and addressed to J. C. Ziegler, Prague, Oklahoma. The upper-left corner card reads: Return in Five Days to METROPOLITAN CIGAR & CANDY CO. (Incorporated) Shawnee, Oklahoma The cover bears a clear SHAWNEE, OKLA. NOV 17, 6 PM, 1920 circular postmark with an attractive American flag machine cancellation. Franked with a 2¢ carmine George Washington stamp from the 1920 offset-printed Washington issue, believed to be Scott #526, Type IV, perforated 11. The stamp remains firmly attached to the envelope and is tied by the machine cancellation. An earlier collector notation on the cover also identifies the stamp as “526.” Because the cancellation crosses important design details, the Scott number is presented as a likely identification rather than a guaranteed expert certification.
