Original antique engraved portrait of Timothy Pickering (1745–1829), prominent early American statesman, Revolutionary War figure, U.S. Postmaster General, Secretary of War, and Secretary of State. The portrait is engraved by T. B. Welch from a drawing by J. B. Longacre after Gilbert Stuart. Beneath the portrait is Pickering’s name along with an engraved facsimile signature. The signature is part of the printed engraving and is not a hand-signed autograph. This handsome circa 1830s engraving features exceptionally fine line and stipple work with strong facial detail and a large portrait image. James B. Longacre later became Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, adding additional historical and numismatic interest. Condition: Good antique condition for its age. Displays expected age toning, scattered light spotting/foxing, and evidence of previous contact or mounting visible on the reverse. The engraved image remains strong and attractive.
