Original antique cut signature attributed to Aaron Venable Brown (1795–1859), a prominent Tennessee statesman who served as Governor of Tennessee, U.S. Congressman, and Postmaster General under President James Buchanan. The cutout includes a bold handwritten “Aaron Brown” signature along with a portion of the original financial receipt text, reading approximately: “Rec’d of Rich’d Devens Com. Genl. full pay for the within amount” The reverse retains additional period handwritten accounting and mileage notations, adding historical context to the piece. Brown was also closely associated with President James K. Polk and practiced law in Tennessee during the early 19th century.
