1840s Samuel D Hubbard Signed Cover Postmaster General Zachariah Allen #1458

Original 19th-century handwritten address cover associated with Samuel Dickinson Hubbard (1799–1855), U.S. Congressman from Connecticut and later United States Postmaster General under President Millard Fillmore. The front is handwritten: “S. D. Hubbard M.C.” and addressed to: “Zachariah Allen Esq. Providence R.I.” The “M.C.” designation indicates Member of Congress, placing the piece during Hubbard’s congressional service in the 1840s. Hubbard later served as U.S. Postmaster General from 1852–1853. The recipient, Zachariah Allen (1795–1882), was a prominent Rhode Island inventor, attorney, textile manufacturer, author, and civic leader, making this an especially interesting association piece between two notable 19th-century Americans. Along the lower edge is an old handwritten attribution identifying the writing as that of Hon. Hubbard, Postmaster General, 1853. This notation appears to have been added later and provides useful early provenance. The cover shows expected age-related wear including folds, foxing/spotting, toning, edge wear, creasing, and handling marks. Please review all photographs closely for exact condition.
