1832 Amos Kendall Signed Treasury Letter U.S. Navy Washington City FREE #1452

Offered here is an original handwritten U.S. Treasury Department letter dated January 16, 1832, from the Fourth Auditor’s Office in Washington City, concerning U.S. Navy pay accounts. The letter acknowledges receipt of earlier correspondence and states that a certificate for $212.04 would be issued for pay/rations covering a period in 1831, with payment to be made by the Navy Agent at Boston. It is addressed to Lt. B. Ticknor, Surgeon, U.S. Navy, Boston, Massachusetts. The document bears the signature of Amos Kendall (1789–1869), an important figure of the Andrew Jackson era who later served as United States Postmaster General from 1835–1840 and became one of President Andrew Jackson’s influential advisers.
