Bain, Type Writer Agent, 532 Walnut Street, Philadelphia handstamp on the reverse. J. W. Bain is documented as a Philadelphia typewriter agent during the 1876 Centennial era, and covers bearing his marking are known to early typewriter and postal-history collectors. The address is typed entirely in capital letters, a characteristic associated with the earliest commercial typewriters of the Sholes & Glidden / early Remington period. The envelope is addressed to: Miss Annie Glenn Coultersville Butler County, Pennsylvania It bears the distinctive green 3¢ 1776–1876 Centennial postal stationery indicium with horse, locomotive and telegraph imagery, along with a Philadelphia-area cancellation.
