The stamp is tied to the envelope by a bold Newburgh, New York circular postmark, and the cover is addressed to Miss Christine Butler, Princeton, New Jersey. Research suggests the recipient may be Christina Van Alen Butler (1837–1918), who later married Rev. William Harris and became connected with a prominent Princeton family.
